Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the US. She's worked as a media critic since 1995. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips featuring commentary and analysis of the representations of women that are prevalent in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency explores how women are represented in the popular culture. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is the main goals of her work. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to specific harassment of women on the internet and other minorities which have been excluded. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in the field of Social and Political Thinking at York University, is a sought after public speaker. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. Passionate about issues of gender and feminism since at an early age, she created her site Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the university. It was a girl determined to make the series of videos on the internet which would explore gender roles in video games. However, she became the target of cyber-bullying. It was not enough to stop her. Instead, it increased her importance to being a feminist and a media critique. She has won numerous awards for her numerous notable contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit explores the portrayals of women in contemporary pop culture.
