Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines football scholarships for his family and service to the community. First, his familial. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on an Eufala farm. Another reason for his football career was that he is the youngest of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. All three were All-Americans. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. In three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy serving as their starting line-up. The team also took home two national championships. Selmon was a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon received a scholarship for the third year in 1975. Selmon received a degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service included ten hours per week of volunteer time in the college. Then he settled in Tampa after college, playing for the Buccaneers for a period of nine years, and played three times in the all-pro league. His career in business began. He was hired in 1988 as an Account Relations officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following organisations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Lee Roy in 1982 for being among the top 10 youngsters in the US. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 7-foot-2. In his time at college, he was the captain of the team of 1975. In 1993, he was a part of his current position at University of South Florida as an associate director of athletics. He was named associate director of athletics by the College Football Hall of Fame named the player on the 28th of October, 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame In 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 presented its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma presented the award.
